Around a month ago I came across this quote that I have been mulling over ever since:
โItโs unbelievable how much you donโt know about the game youโve been playing all your life.โ -Mickey Mantle
How true it is! I believe this quote was originally about baseball, but it resonates deeply with me as I think about my life. Whether I am applying this thought to cooking or preserving, farming or leadership, or even to raising kids, โThe more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.โ as Albert Einstein puts it. There is not a season that goes by at the farm where we are not learning, and this year has been no exception. I am thankful to our farm staff-team, and to my family and friends who are all willing to stick by me as I learn my way through each chapter that comes, both at work and at home.
There is a mix of emotions that come as we finish out our last week at the farm: we are feeling tired after the bustling summer and fall season and we are looking forward to a slower pace, but it is also hard to say goodbye. Each year we are blessed to have met and worked alongside such an awesome staff team, and we miss them when they are gone! We also miss you, our faithful customers. The quietness of the farm has its charm, no doubt, but the still playgrounds and quiet cafรฉ leave an emptiness that keeps us looking forward to spring and the anticipation of what is yet to come.
As another season comes to a close we have so much to be thankful for, and this is where I always strive to land my thoughts. It was another abundant year full of lessons learned, challenges faced, memories made and working together towards the reason that we do what we do:
