Adapt, adapt, adapt! This has been the theme for summer 2020. Businesses, individuals, families, churches, event planners, musicians, the list goes on and on.
When I stop to think of our business alone and all the measures we have put into place, the changes we have implemented, the mind set we have needed to adopt, I realized that being an independent business has its advantages. We have had to roll with it, adapt quickly, make decisions, change, and move forward. Being a small business with a great team of flexible managers has enabled us to do this.
The changes started in March with the addition of the Pick-Up window, the new online store, and the new menu items for take-out. In April we continued with the setup of the market, implementing new safety measures for our opening on May 1. You came, you supported us, you bought our preserves, our pies, and our Apple Juice. June 3 brought the opening of the Farmhouse Café and the playgrounds. We were SO HAPPY to welcome the children back! Again, you supported us; the sound of children playing and laughing helped to make our world a better place. Seeing moms and families gather again in small groups was so encouraging to see.
The end of July brought more changes, more adapting! It became obvious that it was nearly impossible to “Social Distance” in the Ice Cream area so we made the decision to move our “Real Fruit Ice Cream” to a separate area. Construction began in early July to renovate a small area in our Cannery building for the new Ice Cream shop – The Old Brick Press. It is now completed and welcoming guests for Ice Cream, Icy Cold–Pressed Apple Juice and Screamers. We’ve added a bit more seating by the old green truck and again, you supported us! July also saw the great produce move… to a tent in the shade of our massive “Western Locust” tree between the Farmhouse Café and the Country Village. Again this allows us to spread people out for better social distancing and hopefully adds some convenience for our customers.
I cannot begin to thank our customers enough for supporting our local business and many others, and for their patience and kindness as we adapt in this ever-changing world. As a business owner, I admit it has been stressful and exhausting many days, but having your support has been a real encouragement and has been a motivation to keep moving forward. I need to thank our managers and staff to; the flexibility, patience and hard work required on their part has been stellar! We simply could not function without them. I am kind of tired of the overused phrase “we are all in this together”, but nothing could be truer.
With Sincere Gratitude,
Tamra
