The Seasons on our Farm: 2024
In less than two months our farm will open to the public for our 91st year of farming in Vernon. We as a family are excited to share our journey with you as we take a closer look at our annual farm-cycle at Davison Orchards. Throughout the year, exploring this farm-cycle will be the theme of our newsletters. Rest, plan, prune, cultivate, plant, nurture, harvest, nourish; these are the elements that make up the cycle called farming. So much of what happens in between and throughout is out of our control, but that is part of what it means to be a farmer. Two nights in mid January the temperatures plummeted to -30°C and again for the third year in a row, damaging the fruit trees. There is widespread loss in cherries, grapes and other soft fruits like peaches and apricots. Check out the video below to see how this winter has affected our farm.
Learning to adapt, be resilient and cling to the passion deep inside keeps us doing what we love to do - working our land and growing food for our community and beyond.
