 This is a special week for us as a family. Mother’s Day is approaching, and that is cause enough to celebrate, but this year it is extra special. In just a few short days my dear grandmother turns 90!
Dora Davison, or Nana as she’s commonly known as around the farm, was born in Edmonton but has lived in the Vernon Valley since she was a young girl. She has an admirable work ethic, a deep love for her family, and a strong faith in Jesus Christ. These values guide her actions, her daily habits, and her sense of priorities. Her and Grandpa Bob are the steady rocks in our family; I am grateful for them every day. |

 Having the pleasure of doing life with my grandma as a 35 year old mother of three is a rare gift that I do not take for granted. There is nothing on the planet that can cheer me up like a visit to Nana and Grandpa’s house, something that deepens my understanding and perspective on things, challenges me, stretches me and sometimes just comforts me. Because Nana is such a hard worker, sometimes she can get frustrated with not being able to ‘do’ more. Perhaps she doesn’t fully understand how integral her role still is of just being here, rooted, steady and present. She is such a gift. |

As some of you may remember, Nana spent many years working in the bakery. In fact several of the recipes we use to this day are ones from her repertoire. In honour of Nana’s birthday week, we have two special features for you to enjoy! The first, Blueberry Pecan Coffee Cake, is a recipe of hers. Many were the days that she would whip this up to feed orchard crews and hungry grandkids. This will be the Farmhouse Cafe special for the week and available packaged to go in the market. Nana loves kids and kids love her, so our second special will be “Smiley Face” Cookies. From May 6th to 15th, bring the little ones and enjoy one for only 90 cents!

Happy Birthday Nana. May God continue to uphold you, bless you and give you grace each day. Thank you for reflecting His grace back to the rest of us.
