The Countdown Has Begun

View in browser The countdown has begun… In less than 2 weeks we will open our doors for another season. 2023 is a special year for our family as we are celebrating 90 years of farming in Vernon! We look forward to sharing our farming journey with you throughout the season with stories and photos from the past as well as from the present. We are ever grateful for your support that has enabled us to grow and change into what we are today and allowed us to do what we love to do; grow food and provide fun for our community. Joyce, my sister-in-law, has begun her magic in one of our greenhouses. She is busy filling pots with soil, planting the potted flowers and planning the flower beds outside. Our other greenhouse is full of baby onions, peppers, melons and tomatoes that Elyse, Breanna, and Carin have been seeding and tending to over the last few weeks. They are growing stronger by the day and will soon be ready to transplant into our fields as the weather warms. Elyse and the cannery team have had a busy winter and have now completed our preserving season. We are filling the shelves with the fruits of their labor including your old favourites like Lady Rose Relish as well as some delicious new products such as Chai Pear Butter and Seedless Raspberry and Blackberry Jam, just to name a couple! The gift shop is coming together but if you popped in there today you might wonder; it is rather chaotic looking at the moment, but I promise you that by opening day it will be beautiful! Our popular orchard tours will run on Fridays and Saturdays in May and the first part of June, so come out and enjoy the blossoms and the glory of springtime in the Orchard. So far this spring has been cool like last year, but we are anticipating the orchard to bloom by mid-May. We will keep you updated on Facebook and Instagram as things progress. It seems a very short time ago that we were wrapping up the 2022 season, yet here we are hustling around in a hundred different directions to get ready for our May 2nd opening. We will be open on Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:30pm until mid-June, after which we will transition to our summer schedule of 7 days a week. Bob has been a bit lonely this winter, missing all the great visits he enjoys with customers. So come by to hear a story or two and congratulate him on this 90th year milestone. After all, he has been right here farming for over seventy of those ninety years! We all look forward to welcoming you back to our farm, Tamra, for the family P.S.
