Lately, one of the biggest challenges for our family and staff has been figuring out how to continue to share our farm with you in this upcoming season. We are trying to plan, but with so much changing every day it is difficult to make any decisions that require predicting a month in advance.
Years ago, during a season in my life when I was overwhelmed, Nana Davison gave me some helpful advice; she said to "start every day by making your bed! After your bed is made, plan what you will have for supper, and once that is settled, the rest of the day will take care of itself." Instead of focusing on the mountains in our life, we keep trusting the Lord, keep moving forward one step at a time, and keep doing our daily tasks to the best of our ability.
"..and once that is settled, the rest of the day will take care of itself."
In these days, where time is a blur and anxiety is everywhere, Nana’s advice seems particularity practical. I’m afraid you are on your own for making your bed, but perhaps we can lend a hand with supper! Or maybe lunch? We have decided to launch a trial run of making some of our Davison classics available “to go”. The full details and menu are available on our website, but the short version is that we will have these favourites available starting THIS WEEK. (That’s right – we are actually making some things available 3 weeks early!). You can place your order online or by phone, and we will have it prepared for you to take home to enjoy.
We hope this can bring some comfort to your kitchen table, because with all that’s going on, comfort food is still comforting. In fact, it is especially comforting. It is amazing how satisfying it is to sit down together and eat something that tastes exactly the same as it did last year. I am craving familiar; the smell of baking pie brings a sense of calm into the house and makes me want to turn off the news for a few minutes. I can’t change the state of the world, but a hot homemade pie sure changes the mood of my house. It may only last 10 minutes, since that is about how long it takes for my crew to eat the whole thing, but at this point I’m learning not to take 10 peaceful minutes for granted!
We wish you all the best in these difficult times. They are indeed the most difficult days we have collectively faced. Thank you for your support and for your patience with us as we learn this new way of serving you.
With love,
The Davison Family
