Summer is Delicious

It seems too soon, but just like that we are in the last days of July; August is almost upon us! August: I think this is a month most of us look forward to for one reason or another. In my mind, somehow August represents the best days of summer. This is certainly true on the farm. It is during this month that the largest diversity of crops are being harvested.
From tree fruits such as peaches, cherries and nectarines, to the ground crops of melons, onions, peppers and vine-ripened tomatoes, planning healthy meals doesn’t get easier. And for those of us who are looking forward to fresh apples, the first summer varieties are soon to be picked. August is, without a doubt, a busy time at the farm; in the fields as we harvest all these crops, and in the kitchens as we transform the harvest into mouth watering delights. Now that we have fresh tomatoes, the summer menu in the Farmhouse Cafe is back! The Davison family’s favourite sandwich, “Tom’s Toasted Tomato,” and our customer favorite, “Field Fresh” (a freshly baked whole wheat croissant, loaded with fresh veggies) are two tasty reasons to come up and enjoy lunch on the patio.
Try our seasonal Tom's tomato sandwich, now available in the Farmhouse Cafe!

As we look forward to the weeks ahead, we are excited to announce that we are bringing back one of our favourite events: All you can Eat Watermelon and Rollkuchen! Mark your calendars for August 27 and 28th and stay tuned for more details to come. If you’re not sure what Rollkuchen is, don’t worry. Suffice to say, it is delicious! Keep an eye on Facebook in the days ahead for an upcoming video as Rachel and Betti explain to us what Rollkuchen is and why it is special to them.

Happy Summer everyone, and as we say at the farm “summer is delicious!”
