Autumn Abundance

View in browser Autumn Abundance It is full-on fall: the kids are back at school, harvest is in full swing, there are pumpkins and squash everywhere! For the past few weeks I have been working on decorating the farm grounds by setting up old favourite displays as well as inventing some new ones to delight our guests. The autumn abundance is all around us, showing itself in vibrant coloured leaves and quirky shaped gourds and pumpkins. These harvest treasures make it so fun and easy to decorate. I feel blessed to have this job and find such joy in creating beautiful displays for our guests to enjoy.    Besides the outdoor beauty, the gift shop in the Country Village has been transformed into “All Things Autumn”. Inside you will find glass pumpkins, felt pumpkins, plaid pumpkins, wood-like pumpkins, not to mention real pumpkins! There is an amazing collection of table linens and florals to spruce up your home or to create the most gorgeous Thanksgiving table. There is also an impressive assortment of autumn mugs, puzzles, fragrant candles, and even pumpkin T-shirts for the kids. With so many festive fall items, you won't have any trouble finding just the right thing for yourself, your home or to give to a friend.     This week I finished my personal canning by putting up tomatoes along with jars upon jars of salsa to carry us through the winter months. We had a great crop of amazing tomatoes and peppers. I sorely missed having peaches, but was able to enjoy more than my share of vine-ripened watermelon and cantaloupe. We are still picking our delicious sweet-corn daily from our last planting; hopefully we will have it for one more week. There is also only one more week left for U-Pick Apple Tours. They will be ending on Monday, Sept 30th, with U-Pick Pumpkin Tours starting on Wednesday, Oct 2nd.    Summer is busy for us at the farm but fall is even more action-packed. We have seventeen varieties of apples to pick, along with bins and bins of squash, gourds and pumpkins. Like I already mentioned, we are in full swing here at the farm, but for a farmer this is the most rewarding time of the year. Lance said the other day that he loves seeing the empty rows of trees that have been harvested. There is such satisfaction that comes with growing a crop, harvesting it and having it safely in the bins, ready to sell to our loyal customers. We still have lots of work ahead of us before we can say the harvest is complete, but we will take things one day at time and be ever grateful for the good weather, our faithful customers, our great team of staff and an abundant harvest: all blessings from our Lord.     Take time to soak in the autumn abundance.
